Field & Field and Tree, Roddy Ranch, California

James (Jim) Glaze works in both black & white and color mediums. His color work primarily emphasizes the landscapes of the Western United States . These landscapes are often provided in large format where the viewer is drawn not only to the composition, lighting and color of the image, but also to its exceptional detail. Jim’s black & white work, while including classical landscapes, covers a diverse range of subjects with much of its emphasis on sites and structures of significant historical interest. In the field, Jim primarily works with large and medium format cameras. In the darkroom, he employs classical chemical-based techniques to create expressive black & white (silver gelatin) images on fiber papers. These fine-art prints are processed to strict archival standards. His color work is produced from high resolution scans of chromes and with printers using archival inks and papers. His prints are held by individuals, professional corporations and several historical museums. Jim’s formal training is in physics where he received his undergraduate degree at the University of Minnesota and his PhD degree in physics at the University of Oregon. He has worked as both a researcher and executive in the fields of science and technology. He and his wife live in Danville, California.
